At 5 p.m. Friday, our 24-hour emergency line received a call about water surfacing in a busy truck court at an industrial property. Orlando Region Account Manager,  Chad Brown, immediately coordinated an emergency response, dispatching crews to perform leak detection and assess the situation. By early Saturday morning, our team identified the source—a 6-by-6-foot section beneath reinforced concrete that required immediate excavation.

Safe, Precise Excavation

To protect the property’s underground utilities and avoid costly damage, our team used hydro excavation, a non-destructive “soft digging” method that combines pressurized water and vacuum suction. This approach ensured accuracy, safety, and efficiency—critical in an active truck court.

Once excavation began, we discovered the challenge: two Florida Power & Light electrical feeds pressing down on the PVC water main, which had split under the weight. The main was also encased in concrete, increasing the complexity of the repair. Traditional digging methods could have easily hit the electrical lines and cut power to the entire facility—but our team avoided that risk entirely.

The Repair

Crews isolated and shut off the affected line, replaced the damaged section, and pressure-tested the repair before restoring service. By 2 p.m. Sunday, the system was fully operational. The site was backfilled, concrete restored, and the truck court reopened before Monday morning.
